As Columbus, Georgia continues to grow, so does the strain on the City's infrastructure. The Planning Department is responsible for keeping Columbus' infrastructure ahead of future growth expectations. The projects listed below help the Planning Department meet this goal.
The newly named Columbus Fall Line Trace, part of the City's Rails-to-Trails project, is being constructed on an abandoned railroad route. It begins at the 14th Street Pedestrian Bridge and ends at Psalmond Road. The land was purchased by the Columbus Consolidated Government from Norfolk Southern Railroad. When completed, the project will provide a 12-foot wide asphalt trail that will include two park and ride/rest areas.
The Veterans Parkway Streetscape and Pedestrian Enhancement project will turn Veterans Parkway into a true parkway that will become a signature boulevard in our community. The streetscape enhancement will be from the 13th Street Bridge to Victory Drive.
The Wynnton Road Streetscape Enhancement will improve the aesthetic and environmental value of Wynnton Road from Peacock Avenue to Hilton Avenue.
The Planning Department is working hard to make the necessary transportation improvements in Columbus to increase safety, security, and connectivity.
