By now, you should have received in your mailbox the form from the US Census Bureau to participate in the 2010 census. This is an important document for you to complete, as it helps tabulate the number of people residing in the region. This year, the Census is an easy document to complete with just ten basic questions. All answers made on the Census are protected under United States Code and will not be released to any external sources. Census workers will visit households that do not respond to the mailings in early June, who will ask the same basic questions.
In the event you have not received the Census form in the mail, contact the U.S. Census bureau to request a replacement form at the following numbers between 8:00 AM and 9:00 PM.

After all information is gathered and processed, the population counts will be established by December 31, 2010. Then, in March 2011, the Census Bureau should complete delivery of redistricting data to states. The Columbus Planning Department has worked closely with the Census Bureau to ensure that they were aware of every street and address in the city for mailing purposes.
It is now up to you make the final step and be sure to be counted. Your participation in the Census process is vital. Conducted every 10 years, it not only helps determine the population and general characteristics of each respective locality, but also helps determine federal allocation of over $300 billion in funds for items such as road construction and public transportation; school district grants; programs for the elderly; and community revitalization. In the private sector, census data is used to determine where new retail areas and services could be located as well as where jobs might be created.
