Question: Does it cost anything to take a case before the Board of Historic & Architectural Review (BHAR)?
Answer: There is not a fee to apply to go before the BHAR.

Question: If I live in a Historic District, do I have to get approval for paint color?
Answer: No, only structural changes to the exterior of the house or surrounding property have to be approved through the BHAR.

Question: How can I find out if my property lies within a Historic District?
Answer: Contact the Planning Department and we will be able to quickly locate your property and let you know if your property lies within a Historic District.

Question: What are the boundaries of the Historic Districts located in Columbus?
Answer: Download a copy of the Historic Districts map. Please contact the Planning Department for additional information.

Question: Are there any extra regulations on landscaping in Historic Districts?
Answer: No, there are no extra regulations regarding landscaping within the Historic Districts.

Question: Who serves on the BHAR?
Answer: The BHAR is comprised of concerned citizens and area professionals who are genuinely interested in preserving the Historic Districts in Columbus. The members serve on a completely volunteer basis.
