On October 13, 2026 at Blackmon Road Middle School, 7251 Blackmon Road #4460, Columbus, Georgia 31909, the Georgia Department of Transportation/Transportation Investment Act (TIA) Program will hold a Public Information Open House concerning the project listed above.
This project proposes converting both existing intersections north and south of the Schomburg Road bridge and Blackmond Road bridge over State Route (SR) 22/United States Highway (US) 80 to single-lane roundabouts. Both would function in the teardrop configuration and avoid changing the width of the existing bridges. Both bridges would be one travel lane in each direction and 5-foot-wide sidewalks would be provided at all roundabouts and 6.5-foot-wide sidewalks would be provided along both bridges. The proposed roundabout at Schomburg Road would have an 11-foot wide raised median and the proposed intersection at Blackmon Road would include a 12-foot wide raised median. The parapets on both sides of the Schomburg Road and Blackmon Road bridges over SR 22/US 80 would be replaced to meet current requirements for pedestrians, including fencing.
The purpose of this Location and Public Information Open House is to provide the public with an opportunity to view the project, ask questions, and comment on the project.
The Open House will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. It will be informal, and the public is invited to attend anytime during these hours. There will be no formal presentation. A court reporter will be available to allow the public an opportunity to make verbal comments about the project.
