Program Starts: May 24, 2006 (Monday) through July 28.

Registration: May 1 – Friday, May 19. Cost is $133.00 and includes an annual $33 US Masters membership. All swimmers must be USMS registered. (Already a registered USMS swimmer? You must provide copy of your current USMS Card.) Swimmers will belong to the Georgia LMSC and classified as "unattached" to a club.

Practice hours are 6:00 am to 7:30 am Monday – Thursday at the Double Churches 50M Pool located on Double Churches Road

Practices lead by Jennifer Mansfield, USS registered coach for the Columbus Hurricanes, former collegiate swimmer and SwimAtlanta coach/swimmer.

This is program is being offered as joint venture between the Columbus Parks & Recreation Department and the Columbus Hurricanes.

What is United States Masters Swimming (USMS)? USMS exists to promote fitness and health in adults by offering and supporting Masters Swimming programs. USMS was founded in 1970 and currently has over 40,000 members. It supports and encourages competition, but more than half of its members are fitness swimmers who do not compete. USMS is one of five organizations which comprise "United States Aquatic Sports", which is a member of FINA, the international governing body for aquatic sports.

MANDATORY: All swimmers must have a Recreation ID Card!!!

Age: Any person 18 years an older.

Experience needed: Must be able to swim length of pool (50M) freestyle without stopping. Competitive swim experience is not a requirement. You must have a swim suit. Coaches will provide instruction on other strokes: backstroke, fly, and breaststroke.

Practice times: 3 to 4 times per week, Monday – Thursday (Fridays are for rainouts). Morning hours only between 6am –7:30 am. Coach will call swimmers before first practice (Monday, May 23).

Meets and Travel: Meets are optional. You are not required to participate in a meet. As part of the Georgia Games, there will be an Open Water Swim on July 16 at Lake Lanier. More info later. Travel and associated costs are the responsibility of the swimmer.

Additional Costs: Meet entry fees are the responsibility of the swimmer.
