We are Georgia's first consolidated government, and we are
proud to serve as a model for other local governments across the
nation. The City of Columbus and Muscogee County merged in 1971,
creating a streamlined system which provides a very high level of
citizen services at a very low per capita cost.
This city is visitor and business friendly. We are in a period
of unprecedented building and development, which is bringing our
quality of life to new highs.
The world's largest and best Infantry center, the U.S. Army's
Fort Benning, is an important part of metro Columbus. Phenix City,
Alabama, is just across the Chattahoochee River from us. Our
tri-community, with its wonderful people and great climate, is
simply one of the best places on earth--cosmopolitan, but always
neighborly. Columbus, Georgia is ranked the safest city in the
Southeast and one of the safest in the nation
The Chattahoochee is navigable to the Gulf of Mexico and the
seven seas. Our riverfront attractions include the Chattahoochee
Riverwalk, Coca-Cola Space Science Center, Columbus Civic Center,
our world-class South Commons Softball Complex including a
world-class softball stadium and much, much more. I hope that
