Recorder's Court hears traffic, criminal and city ordinance cases made by the Columbus Police Department, Special Enforcement, Airport Police, Housing Authority, Metro Narcotic Task Force, Fire Department, Georgia State Patrol and the Columbus State University Police Department.
The court's functional responsibility is to set bail, issue warrants, collect fines/bonds, hear and determine if probable cause exists for Superior/State Court offenses, and adjudicate City Ordinances and certain state offenses. The Treasury Division collects all fines/bonds and other monies directed by the courts.
The hours of operation for Recorder's Court are between 8:00 am to 4:30 pm (beginning Nov.1, 2010) Monday through Friday, excluding holidays, for the posting of bond for traffic offenses. It is also open on Saturdays and some holidays for arrest cases only. Bonds will not be accepted on the day of the scheduled hearing, weekend, or most holidays. Court is held at 8:00 am, 9:00 am, and 2:00 pm Monday through Saturday. Environmental Court is held on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month at 9:00 am and 2:00 pm.
