John Darr was born in Fort Benning, Georgia in 1966. As the son of a Military family, he accompanied them to numerous duty stations before returning home to Columbus in 1977. He is currently in his second term as Sheriff and looks forward to continuing to serve the citizens of Columbus.
John attended Arnold Middle School and graduated from Hardaway High School in 1984. He obtained his Associate’s Degree from Columbus State University. Linda, his lovely wife, and John have four children and two grandchildren with one more on the way: Rachael Darr Patton and grandson Wilson Turner Patton, Michelle Webster and granddaughter Carson, Courtney, and Troy, who both attend Columbus State University. John and his family attend Britt David Baptist Church, where his is an active member. John’s strong family values lead him to devote much of his personal time to coaching softball and baseball, where he has proven to be a positive influence on the members of our community.
Dedicating his life to public service, John joined the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office in 1988, thus serving Muscogee County residents for twenty years. His experience and duties with the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office included serving in the Jail Division, Patrol Division, Fugitive Division, Investigative Division, and as a Sergeant at the county jail where he supervised personnel. John was also one of four Muscogee County deputies who volunteered to serve at Ground Zero of the World Trade Center after 9/11. John retired after twenty years of service with the Sheriff’s Office to run for Sheriff of Muscogee County, Georgia.
