Muscogee County Sheriff - Sheriff Ralph B. Johnson

Ralph Johnson was born in 1956 in Columbus, Georgia. He attended local schools and graduated from Columbus High School. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Columbus College. In 1998, he completed a Masters Degree with Honors in Public Administration from Columbus State University. He is a graduate of the 156th session of the FBI National Academy as well as Class 2 of the Georgia Chiefs of Police Command College. Sheriff Johnson was a member of the 1998-1999 Leadership Columbus class and has remained active with the Leadership Columbus alumni.

Sheriff Johnson has been with the Sheriff's Office for over 20 years. He was hired as a Jailer in 1982 and was promoted to Deputy Sheriff in 1983. He became Sergeant in 1987 and was promoted to Lieutenant in 1993. He became Chief Deputy 1997. Johnson was appointed Sheriff in September 1999. He won a special election in November 1999 to fill the un-expired term of Sheriff Gene Hodge. Ralph Johnson was re-elected Sheriff of Muscogee County on November 7, 2000.

Sheriff Johnson serves in the capacity of CEO of the Metro Narcotics Task Force. He is also presently a

member of the Congressional Affairs Committee for the National Sheriff's Association, a member of the Ethics, Standards and Training Committee for the National Sheriff's Association, a member of the Legislative Committee for the Georgia Sheriff's Association, Co-Chair of the Audit and Budget Committee for the Georgia Sheriff's Association, and Secretary/Treasurer of the Georgia Sheriff's Youth Homes.
