PURPOSE:

The Affirmative Action Office has the responsibility for managing and providing coordination for the city-wide equal employment opportunity and affirmative action programs for employment consistent with local and federal laws, council ordinance and administrative policy.

OBJECTIVES:

To monitor the city's affirmative action plan.

To ensure compliance with Title VII of the Civil Rights Act.

To maintain a comprehensive Equal Employment Opportunity training program.

To investigate and conciliate internal complaints of discrimination.

To provide technical assistance to departments.

To serve as liaison between the city and the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and other federal compliance agencies.

This office is liaison for the Mayor's Commission on Diversity which promotes an awareness and appreciation of the diversity in the community, and advocates equality and fair treatment of all citizens through educational and cultural programs.
 

The Affirmative Action office services all employees and applicants for employment of the Columbus Consolidated Government.
