- Where do I register to vote?
Mail-in registration applications are available at any library or on-line at www.columbusga.org/elections/. Also, here at the Government Center Elections Office (West Wing building, ground floor), customers that walk-in to register are immediately processed.
- How do I know if I am registered to vote?
You can access the Secretary of State’s Election website at www.sos.georgia.gov/elections/, and click on Poll Locator. You may also call the Elections Office at 706-653-4392.
- Can a felon vote?
Yes, once all aspects of your felony sentence is completed to include probation, restitution, or fines.
- What is the deadline to register to vote?
The deadline to register is the fifth Monday prior to the date of the election or primary. Mailed voter registration applications are accepted if postmarked by the deadline.
- What kind of identification do I need to have to vote?
Present one of the approved forms of identification: GA drivers license, valid GA ID card, valid U.S. passport, valid employee ID card containing a photograph issued by any branch, department, agency, or entity of the United States government, this state, or any county, municipality, board, authority, or other entity of this state; valid U.S. military ID card with a photograph; valid tribal ID card containing a photograph.
- Do I have to vote at my assigned precinct?
On Election Day, you do have to vote at your assigned precinct. During early and advance voting, you may vote at any of the available sites.
- How can I receive an absentee ballot?
You can vote absentee in the Elections Office during the hours of 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM. Absentee ballot applications are available for a mail-out ballot by calling the Elections office 706-653-4392 or printing an application from elections web site at www.columbusga.org/elections/ or www.sos.georgia.gov/elections/.
- If I am military, how do I vote absentee?
You can request Absentee application from the state that is your home of record. Also Secretary of State’s website at www.sos.georgia.gov/elections/, and click on the Forms and Publications link on the left-hand side of the web page.
- I am on the automatic absentee ballot list why haven’t I received it?
You must be Disabled or 75 years of age or older to be eligible for the absentee automatic ballot list and you must request that ballots be sent to you for every election. You must make that request at the beginning of EVERY year.
- When will advance/early voting begin and where?
Advance/Early voting is October 15th through November 2nd at the Elections office Monday-Friday, 8:30 am-5:00 pm; Columbus Baptist Association on Steam Mill Road Monday-Friday, 9:30 am-6:00 pm; North Highland Assembly of God on Whittlesey Drive Monday-Friday, 7:00 am-3:00 pm and the Columbus Public Library on Macon Road, Monday-Thursday, 10:30 am-7:00 pm, Fridays, 10:00 am-4:00 pm as well as Saturday, October 20th and Saturday, October 27th from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm at the Columbus Public Library ONLY. - Where can I find a sample ballot?
A sample ballot for the next election or primary may be viewed on-line at www.columbusga.org/elections/, and click on the sample ballot link.
- Where can I find a list of candidates running for office?
A complete list of candidates for all local offices can be found at http://www.columbusga.org/elections/. For a complete list of candidates for all state offices, visit http://www.sos.ga.gov/elections/ and click on Qualified Candidates to see the state of Georgia candidates.
- Where can I get Campaign Disclosures for candidates?
All campaign disclosures may be viewed on-line at www.columbusga.org/elections/, and click any link under the heading Candidate Campaign Disclosures.
