Vivian Creighton Bishop was born at Fort Benning, Georgia. During her childhood, she lived in various locations throughout the United States and Europe. She attended elementary school in Columbus, Georgia, junior high school in Arizona and graduated from high school in Wuerzburg, Germany. Mrs. Bishop attended Columbus Technical College, Atlanta Jr. College and Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA. She recently completed training in Macon, Georgia to become a State Certified Mediator in Civil, Domestic and Family mediation.
Mrs. Bishop has received numerous awards to include the Outstanding Community Service award from the Columbus Professional Women. She received the Citizen of the Month award, the Outstanding Achievement in Community Involvement Award in Women on the Rise award; Kiwanis Public Service award, Community Service Award for Outstanding Service in Government, the South Trust Bank Employee of the Month, Rainbow Push Coalition-Woman on the Rise Award, Woman of Achievement for Girl Scouts of Concharty Inc, Big Sisters/Big Brothers Big Heart award and the order of St. Maritzs award, she also received the State Employee of the Year for the State of Georgia/Administrative Support Division, and the Davis Broadcasting, Ordinary Women-Doing Extra Ordinary Things Award, just to mention a few.
An active participant in various organizations, Mrs. Bishop has served or continues to serve on the board of the American Cancer Society, Girls Inc., the Liberty Theater, the National Infantry Museum, Little Blessing Nurturing Center, the Family Center, the Black History Committee and the prestigious Congressional Club in Washington, DC, where she holds the position of Immediate Past President, she is presently serving on the 1st Ladies Luncheon Committee. The Congressional Club is the bipartisan spouses club for the members of Congress, the US Senate, the Supreme Court, the Ambassadors and former First Ladies. Mrs. Bishop is the first African American to hold this position since the club’s inception in 1908. She is Past President of the Congressional Black Caucus Spouses organization and previously served as an Ex-Officio Officer on the Board of Director’s of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation. She is a member of the NAACP, a Rotarian a Paul Harris Fellow and a member of the Metropolitan D.C. Chapter of Links, Inc. She is also a member of the ML Harris United Methodist Church, and serves on the Board of the Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia, Inc. (she is a former girl scout). She is a Member of the International Club
Vivian is married to the Honorable Sanford D. Bishop Jr; they have one daughter, Aayesha (Stephen) Reese, and a granddaughter Londyn who lives in Lithonia, Georgia.
Vivian was recently recognized as one of the 30 most influential women in Muscogee County.
