To assist the Cooperative Extension Service by training Master Gardeners to provide unbiased and up to date horticultural information to the community through volunteer service in educational gardening projects and by using applied research and resources of the UGA.

Advanced Master Gardener Training - Landscape Design

 

This is a series of three advanced Master Gardener training modules designed for specialized training on how home landscapes can significantly impact both water quality and quantity in fragile watersheds.

This regional training series is a collaborative effort between Cooperative Extension and Master Gardener programs in Alabama, South Carolina and Georgia.

  • Columbus Botanical Garden
    • Volunteers provide a variety of support, most importantly; we provide cooperative efforts on educational programs, such as the Rain Barrel Demo project and in the future, a Rain Garden Demo.

  • Oxbow Meadows Environmental Education
    • Volunteers provide a variety of support, including butterfly/pollinator garden maintenance, Insectival exhibit.

  • Junior Master Gardener Program
    • Volunteers support the JMG program through teaching lessons, providing refreshments, chaperoning classes and garden preparation.

  • Walker-Peters-Langdon Garden
    • Volunteers maintain the heirloom garden located at the WPL House. We have received several grants for maintenance and upgrades. School children visit the garden in conjunction with the home tours.

  • Deborah Jones Memorial Community Garden
    • Volunteers install the vegetable garden plots at the garden for community consumption.

  • Columbus Museum
    • Volunteers periodically work at the “Pool House” garden below the Olmstead Garden.

    • Volunteers assist with maintenance of planted trees and shrubs in the cemetery.

  • WaterSmart Program
    • Volunteers educate the public in a variety of ways, including short talks, exhibits, news articles, workshops, etc. The programs are held in multiple locations and at different times.

  • Keep Columbus Beautiful Garden Tour
    • Volunteers are encouraged to docent gardens of the yearly tour (May 3, 2008). Volunteers can hold 2-hour shifts, or be a Garden Chairperson.
